one woman, one wheel
Jul. 8th, 2010 11:12 amThree things I like: futile quests, exercise, impressing small children.
A few years ago, in the throes of a mid-high-school crisis, I acquired a unicycle. My goal this summer (as it was last summer, to give you an idea of how seldom I ride the thing) is to be able to mount said unicycle without holding onto anything/one, and then ride it.
Thus, I spent an hour this morning falling off my unicycle, most of it near a playground in the neighborhood park. This was gratifying: when I was falling off the unicycle repeatedly, the small children (and their adults) paid me no attention, as I was Boring. When I finally got it, they watched me and said "look at her" and "wow".
Times I actually managed to get on and ride it (for more than a few wheel-revolutions): 4
Length of each of those: ...a minute? At the outside?
Time I actually fell, as opposed to just falling off the unicycle: 1 (scraping my elbow)
Maybe if I keep doing this I'll legitimately Get It someday.
...man, that felt good. Time for some icewater.
