Mostly: planning, planning, planning. WisCon next weekend! London soon after that! I have all the things to do.

Bit of progress on Whisper-Trail:
5983 / 80000

...but not very much. Partly because of planning various things (I went voluntarily to the Mall of America by myself) and meeting up with friends, partly because my brain's decided to go on vacation. Well, it is summer break. But I have a goal of 10k by the end of May, so one of these days I should maybe start putting words down again.

And revise that short story. I should do that, too.

Books read:

The Princess Curse, Merrie Haskell: Fun. Mostly took bits and pieces from fairy tales/myths and assembled them into their own thing, but with nice takes on it all. The fact that Reveka was an herbalist, and that this affected a lot of how the plot turned out, was awesome. Also, Hildegard of Bingen! (One plot point, explained afterward, was explicitly from a particular myth--that one didn't work quite so well for me. But most of it did.) If there's a sequel I'll definitely pick it up.
The Broken Kingdoms, N.K. Jemisin: I...hm. The god-drama in these books almost gets me, but not quite. Lots of creepy stuff in this one. Pretty epic sweep of story. I'm not sure what I wanted from this that it didn't give me? I mean, I enjoyed reading it, but it didn't drag me in.
Mistwood, Leah Cypess: I did not predict the main plot twist! All courtly intrigue and assassination attempts and high drama, but mostly teens are--without comment--the main movers and shakers of this political world. Which is cool. Also, magic!
The Thorn and the Blossom, Theodora Goss: Delicately told. The physical entity is very well put together (it's an accordion book) with nice illustrations, slipcase, etc. The story is one I expect I'll come back to.
Coronets and Steel, Sherwood Smith: Rollicking. Prisoner of Zenda, except with a female protagonist (who's a fencer and a nerd and sensible), set now, plus a love triangle with intelligent guys. Which works out...not entirely to anyone's favor, really. Sherwood Smith: still excellent at romantic plotlines, since I was eight* and read Crown Duel and went "yes". (*estimated age)

...plus a bunch of rereads, because it's summer break and I'm back near all my books. Howl's Moving Castle, A Love Story Starring My Dead Best Friend, Territory, bits and pieces of a few others.
