A question:

When you leave your place of residence, what is absolutely essential? When was the last time this changed, and how did it?

I was thinking about this the other day--when I was little, my asthma meds were absolutely essential for leaving the house. Then I started carrying money, a cell phone, house keys, school ID, driving permit, too.

Now, in college, when I leave my dorm room, the thing I check for is my dorm keys/ID card. The campus is small enough that if I forget something, I can go back into my room and grab it--but if I don't have my ID and keys, I can't get into the dorm/room in the first place.

(Asthma meds are certainly high on the list, still, too, but that's become so much a part of just what I carry that I no longer have to check myself for them. Which is an interesting question, too. What are the things that you just grab automatically and don't even have to think about?)
